Thank you for explaining Substack. I've kind of stumbled into it without really understanding it and I lack the bandwidth in doing my own homework on it. So well done! Also, and this is not a shock, I think it suits you as a platform because you write well.
So glad it was helpful! Substack is a bit strange, I find — the newsletter-straight-into-your-inbox side of it is so brilliantly and intuitively designed, but the rest of it can feel quite unwieldy.
This is so helpful! I’ve been here nearly two years and I didn’t know you could save an article.
I was signed up to newsletters from here for five years before that but didn’t come to the site until I moved my newsletter here in november 2022. You definitely don’t need to come.
I do look at notes so I quite like the follow option if I’m not yet sure I want something in my inbox but I’d like to keep an eye on what they’re publishing.
This such a brilliant explanation of Substack! I've been using it for a little while and understand it myself but have always struggled with how to explain it to those who are new to it so thank you!
The easiest option is to scroll down to the bottom of an email from the publication you want to unsubscribe from and click ‘unsubscribe’.
If you want to do it on the Substack website navigate to your profile (click the three lines in the top right hand corner of the screen, then click on your profile at the top). You’ll see ‘Posts’, ‘Notes’, ‘Likes’, ‘Reads’. Click ‘Reads’, scroll down to the publication you want to unsubscribe from, click on the button next to the publication that says ‘subscribed’ and it will give you the option to unsubscribe.
Very useful Alexina - I will try to share with my mother as she is reluctant to subscribe to SubStack - fearing that she will have to pay and give her bank details
I'm so pleased this was helpful Caroline! I think it can be a bit confusing/overwhelming at first. And although Substack would hate me for saying this, it's good to remember that you can simply subscribe to a newsletter with your email address, no additional details required, and enjoy someone's writing from your inbox!

Ahh, thanks Bill! Glad I could be of some help. And lovely of you to say -- I'm really enjoying writing on Substack - it feels very effortless :)
This was excellent. Thank you! 😊 Just started on Substack and floundering somewhat!

Absolutely! The Notes I’m tempted to leave entirely 😁
Right decision, I reckon!!
This is an EXCELLENT summary and will be so useful to many. Congratulations for going to the effort!!!
Thank you Jo!

Ah i’m glad that it is! That’s a really good point about the benefit of following over subscribing actually…
So helpful to be told how to save an article! Thank you.
So glad it was helpful’
Very handy guide for people

Pleased to hear!

How do I unsubscribe?
