Adding malt flavour to chocolate brownies is a genius idea! Like all the best ideas, you just think 'it's simple but it makes total sense'. As well as 'why didn't I think of that?'! I'm definitely making these the next free weekend I've got.

These look amazing. Can’t wait to try them. Unfortunately I can’t find horlicks anywhere. I’d kinda forgotten about it existing. I loved it as a kid.

Oh, that’s a shame! I’ve found it in Sainsbury’s before, in case that helps? Also Saskia says that Ovaltine works too if that’s easier to get hold of!

Thanks. I’m right down in the south of Ireland, so no Sainsbury’s. I do miss Sainsbury’s. I’ll be in Belfast in a few weeks so I’ll try hunt some out. No Ovaltine either 🤣. I just saw Saskia’s pistachio pesto and mortadella croissant though… I might have to try that too.

I made them on Sat eve. I don’t mess about with brownies 🤣 Alas I don’t think I can share the photos.

I think Jen would like these - we were discussing brownies recently - I am team fudgy and she is cakey. So I think 40 mins for her would probably work, I did 30 but I think will try again with 25 as I like really gooey. But great crackle skin and I think a good brownie for both sides of the brownie fence.

Also the recipe which is closest in flavour to box brownies which I know some people rely on and need tempting away from!

I appreciate how seriously you take brownies 😂

I agree — what I like about them is that they somehow straddle fudgy and cakey.

I do enjoy a deeply dark fudgy brownie but the formulation has to be right so that they don’t just feel wet/severely undercooked.

To me these brownies are the perfect universal brownie i.e. will please everyone.

Thanks so much for the detailed feedback as well, so helpful for anyone else making the recipe :)
